AGILITY CLASSES
We LOVE LOVE LOVE this dog sport! Agility is one part obedience, one part relationship, and one part sheer adrenalin rush! The relationship between dog and handler, the feeling of accomplishment when the team learns a new skill, the fun of running and jumping, the camaraderie between handlers, the challenge of beating the course- it’s all good!
Please call for more information on class times and locations. If you’ve already started agility training and would like to join one of our classes, we can evaluate your training level and place you with the appropriate group.
Although there is no minimum age requirement for these classes, it is recommended that your dog completed at least one basic obedience course or the equivalent before attending any group agility class. Solid skills that will set the team up for success include sit, down, stay for at least 30 seconds, a reliable recall, an attention command, and reasonably polite walking in an environment with high distractions and other dogs.
Agility training has a significant off-leash aspect involved. Because of this, dogs who are aggressive with other dogs or people cannot participate in our group classes. But, we have plenty of experience training dogs with these issues, so if you feel your dog might not handle a class situation well, private lessons can be arranged. Or, talk to us about our Charm School program to see if we can’t work through your dog’s issues so they can participate in this great sport!
Agility For You?
This 2 hour workshop is similar to our AgilePups program, except that it is for dogs older than 7 months. It is your chance to check out the starter obstacles and see if this sport is something you and your dog would be interested in and suited for.
This program is for dogs who are not aggressive with other dogs or people, and have good focus on their handler as well as some beginner obedience.
Puppy Foundations:
Get your agility pup on the right track for future agility training! These lessons include not only introduction to the "baby" equipment, but we also work on focus, recalls, stays, and other skills that will benefit the team as the puppy grows and learns. We also start teaching the handler the skills they need to be clear and consistent with their handling cues.
Starter Agility 1:
Introduction to the obstacles and basic handling flat work will be the subject of these lessons. This is a foundation upon which all other agility training can be built, and some obedience and attention work will be incorporated into the lesson plan. Having fun is a big priority!
Starter Agility 2:
These lessons are a continuation of Starter Agility- we will continue to build familiarity and independence on all the agility obstacles, and start to sequence obstacles together while learned to handle with style and clarity!
**** Starter Agility lessons are conducted as private lessons. The first lesson is one hour, and subsequent sessions are a half hour. Working one-on-one allows us to tailor the lessons to each team's ability and progress. When the team is ready, we roll them into one of the handling classes to start putting it all together in a group setting.
Intermediate Agility Handling:
These classes are a continuation of the Starter Agility classes- we will continue with longer obstacle sequences, learn new handling strategies, start distance work, and continue teaching obstacle independence.
Advanced Agility Handling:
This level is a continuation of the Intermediate Agility classes- for dogs and handlers who are currently competing.
Tackling Distance Challenges:
For Advanced teams, push the limits of your working relationship in the ring and solidify your communication while your dog completes obstacle sequences at a distance!
Problem Solving Clinics:
We will be conducting single session workshops to tackle common agility issues, like breaking start line stays, poor contact performance, better weave pole performance, knocked bars, and handler focus. Contact us to be added to our email list and stay posted on our offerings!
