Rally provides a link from the Canine Good Citizen program to formal obedience competition for dogs and handlers and promotes fun and enjoyment for dogs at all levels of competition.
The dog and handler team work on their own to follow a course of numbered stations, performing the skill that is designated on the sign at each station. Scoring is not as rigorous as in traditional obedience, and unlimited communication from the handler to the dog is encouraged and not penalized.
Handlers are permitted to talk, praise, encourage, clap their hands, pat their legs or use any verbal means of encouragement. Multiple commands and/or signals using one or both arms and hands are allowed. This sport helps build teamwork between dog and handler and is an excellent way to help new dogs and handlers grow comfortable in a competition setting. This class will teach the handler the correct way to perform each Rally sign and help train the dogs in the skills they need to successfully compete in this fun sport. The class will focus primarily on AKC Rally but UKC and APDT signs can also be covered if requested. |
About the Instructor: Sue DiBianca

Sue DiBianca started training and showing in obedience at age 15 and finished a Utility title on her first collie at age 19. She has completed obedience titles on five collies and four cocker spaniels and has served as a 4-H dog leader and judge. Her collie, Lad, was the first collie to receive the AKC Rally Advanced Excellent title, completing the four Rally titles in 29 straight runs with no non-qualifying scores and 25 scores above 95. He went on to receive an RAE2 at the age of 8 with no non-qualifying scores. Sue’s current smooth collie, River, finished his Rally Novice title at the age of seven months and completed his RAE one year later. Both collies also completed their CDX and multiple titles in herding and backpacking. River is currently training for Utility and also has titles in agility and conformation.
Sue believes in using positive training methods and catering those methods to best fit the individual dog. She believes in the importance of building communication and rapport to create a successful working team. She has been teaching Rally since 2005, and many of her students have completed Rally Excellent and Rally Advanced Excellent titles with high scores and placements.
