PET OBEDIENCE CLASSES & WORKSHOPS
(Please Note: These classes are for dogs who do not have aggression/reactive issues with people or other dogs.)
Courteous Canines Obedience Program

The Pet Works training class structure is not the traditional setting of a structured eight-week class program. Some dogs need more than eight classes to master basic obedience skills; some need less; this program can accommodate for that. And although we encourage you to make a commitment to attending class consistently every week, we realize that sometimes you can’t get to class, sometimes causing you and your dog to fall behind the rest of the class. This program allows you to work at your own pace, and on a schedule that works for you and your family.
Topics to be covered include basic family dog manners like sit & down, stay, coming when called, polite walking, polite greetings and attention to the owner despite distractions. Because of the flexibility of the program, each week the class may also address other behavior & training issues, keeping class fun, informative and ever-changing!
We will also be working on the skills necessary for the dogs and owners to successfully pass the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen evaluation (http://www.akc.org/events/cgc/ ), APDT’s CLASS BA, MBA & PhD evaluations (www.mydoghasclass.com ), and the TDI Therapy Dog evaluation (www.tdi.com ).
AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy

The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is an exciting new program designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start. The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppysm Program is an incentive program for loving dog owners who have taken the time to take their puppies through a basic training class.
In classes aimed at earning the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy distinction, you’ll be able to get information on all of your puppy-raising questions including housetraining, chewing, and the most effective way to teach practical skills such as sit, down, polite walking, polite greetings, and coming when called. AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy training is a natural lead in to the AKC® Canine Good Citizen® Program.

Coming When Called:
One of the most important skills a dog needs is to return to their owner when called, immediately, despite environmental distractions. This class will focus on honing that skill to be as close to 100% reliable as you are willing to train for!
Polite Walking:
One of the primary complaints dog owners have is that they can’t walk their dog without pulling. We have a variety of strategies we can use to teach each dog how to walk nicely on leash, and we will personalize the training to each dog’s individual needs.
